Choose a crossbody when you want your hands free and your bag secure — the strap crosses the body, so the weight settles across you instead of dragging on one shoulder. Choose a shoulder bag when you carry more, dress up often, or want a bag you can set down and pick up in one motion.

Pack a straw hat crown-side up and loosely stuffed with tissue paper, a soft scarf, or even a pair of socks, so it holds its shape instead of collapsing under everything else in the suitcase. Never fold it flat or wedge it under folded clothes.
